In case you don't follow the news or if you live under a rock, there is a lot going on in our country right now. Bankruptcies, corporate bailouts, the presidential election, and terrorism...just to name a few. Do you worry about all of this? Do you wonder what is going to happen? In can be quite concerning to think about these things. The question is....what do you have your faith in? Have you placed your faith in the government or the economy? Does your security come from your life insurance or retirement fund? What would happen to you if our financial system failed and our money meant nothing? Think about it....what would that mean for you and your security? Is your hope and faith in money, stuff, insurance, or the government? Or is your hope and faith in Jesus? Think about what is truly important to you and what will really matter to you if our economy crashes or when your life comes to an end. I think that we would all probably agree that if our money meant nothing, then our priorities would change dramatically. So why not start living like that today? Why not start living like your money and your stuff meant nothing. Would you spend more time with your family, friends, volunteering, and doing good things? Do you want to be a person that talks about doing good things or do you want to be a person that actually does good things? So...where's your faith?

I try not to worry even though sometimes that is difficult. It is always comforting to know that God will provide even when things are tight. This ties in with why we tithe and give offerings in worship. When we tithe it isn't just giving money so the church can keep the lights on, it is a bold statement of trust in God. Dropping any amount of money in the plate is saying, "God, I trust you so much that I know I will be taken care, and even blessed without this." I love that! As Christians we are blessed by blessing others, we gain by giving up.
Great question, Aaron. What strikes me about it is how equally obvious and challenging it is. I'm almost embarrassed by how easily I fall into relying on anything but Christ. God keeps (patiently) teaching me how faithful God is-no matter what! I learned to roll my kayak this year, and I am discovering that trusting God is a lot like rolling a kayak. The kayak wants to right itself after going over, and will do it, IF I don't do anything to hinder the process. All I need to do is throw myself underwater, stay close to the boat, and lean back. Amazingly (it really is a cool thing), the kayak flips over and I'm up! Similarly, God wants good for me. God is faithful. All I have to do is trust. Just choose to actively know and put my faith in Jesus, instead of all those other things. I blow it almost as often as I blow my rolls, but God is so patient with me!
